Clingmans Dome is the highest peak in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, standing at 6,643 feet. Located on the border between North Carolina and Tennessee, it offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Visitors can reach the summit by driving along Clingmans Dome Road and then hiking a steep, half-mile paved trail to the observation tower. The tower, a concrete structure with a circular observation deck, provides unobstructed 360-degree views and is one of the park’s most popular attractions. Clingmans Dome is also a key point along the Appalachian Trail and offers access to several other hiking trails. Due to its high elevation, temperatures are cooler and weather conditions can change rapidly, so visitors should come prepared. The road to Clingmans Dome is typically closed from December to March due to snow and ice.
